As psychologists say, we need to focus if we are to achieve happiness and greatness in life. We cannot afford to waste valuable time doing things that do not matter at the moment. However, focus is not something that you can easily achieve, particularly if you have attention deficit hyperactive disorder. Read on to find what you need to do to improve your focus.
Exercise Regularly
Instead of relying on coffee every now and then to stay alert go for cardio exercises. Exercise, especially that which increases the heart and breathing rate, has been found to improve focus in people who have attention-deficit disorders. According to scientists, exercise stimulates certain chemicals in the brain that are responsible for promoting memory and learning.
Stay Hydrated
You need to drink a lot of water if you want to improve your concentration. Mild dehydration can lead to lack of focus. Even a drop of 2 percent of water in the brain can impair cognitive function significantly. When the brain detects any slightest change in the body’s water content, it begins to operate at a sub-optimal level. Make sure you drink at least eight glasses of water per day to improve your concentration levels.
Meditate
Many people know meditation as a great way to relax. It is also a great way to improve focus. Just 10 to 20 minutes of meditation per day will make a big difference. Meditation trains your brain to focus on one thing at a time. You can easily transfer this in your daily tasks to help you focus. There is no defined time for meditation. However, experts recommend you meditate when you wake in the morning and before you go to bed.
Read
Reading can help you improve your focus. Try and read something for at least 30 minutes and build up the momentum slowly to one hour. When you read, you focus on the text in front of you. This will greatly help you to focus. Reading before bed time has been found to be more effective than any other time of the day.
Have a Routine
Most of us fail to concentrate because we don’t have a routine. It is important you have a solid routine so that you start the day off in the right way. When you have a routine, you will be motivated to get more things done. Get enough sleep, eat a good breakfast and make some time for some quick exercises.
Avoid Distractions
Sometimes we don’t focus because we are way too distracted. Avoid opening your emails or Facebook page. Online distractions can be so difficult to manage. If you usually check Facebook and emails after 10 minutes, change the routine to 30 minutes and slowly move to one hour or more. If you work in an open office, create a sign that politely asks people not to disturb you.
