1. Fishing Deluxe ($2.99)
Every good wrangler knows that the fish don’t bite with the same frequency over time. But what time is best? What day, and for which fish? Those are the questions Sergey Vdovenko’s product Fishing Deluxe tries to answer.
The program is fairly, simple – it uses your GPS signal to determine your location and give you the best, most-targeted information available. Fortunately, you don’t need a WiFi or even a 4G signal to use the app – most information is saved locally to ensure that your decisions are as educated as possible.
Fishing Deluxe offers nuanced data for you to use: weather, sun set/rise times, lunar phases, and actual peak hours – all of which help can help you increase your catch or even just remind you to bring an umbrella or a flashlight. You might ask, “why pay for an app that tells you things you can just look up?” Believe me, your concern is definitely justified, but the app sells itself on the precise calculation it offers to users.
Even if you aren’t predisposed to smartphone technology, the app’s well-labelled and compact layout presents no challenge even for inexperienced users, as everything is organized on a calendar. However, it utilizes a monthly fee which might warrant some caution from potential buyers, especially during off months.
2. VibraGRUB ($4.99)
EvolveBaits’ VibraGRUB is truly “killer” when it comes to freshwater fishing lures. Its active, undulatory nature catches the eye of bass and crappie quickly.
What sets it apart? The asymmetrical rubber appendages on either side of the lure create movement that is very much unique to the VibraGRUB. Arguably EvolveBait’s flagship product, it currently holds two patents as it is the product of substantial research and development and can be used effectively on both weighted hooks and on most jigs. This product is also environmentally sustainable, as according to Wikipedia, reducing the over-fishing of baitfish through the use of artificial lures relieves the stress fishing can exert on ecosystems.
Although it is very useful, its efficiency does come at the expense of durability. Since fish often go after the product violently, its well-designed frame can be compromised relatively quickly. And since only six to eight come in a package, you should be wary about how reliable your lures might be in the long run.
3. Fishing Camps ($700.00/night)
Lastly, new fishing camps provide a unique experience on the water. They are currently popping up all over the place, too! A recent New York Times article highlights several independent locations, from Colorado to Argentina.
You might ask – “I have a tent, though, isn’t that the same thing?” This time, however, your skepticism isn’t warranted – these camps are emerging to provide a unique, almost luxurious experience on the water, with wifi, cooked food, and heated cabins. No longer will your companion’s complaints ruin your catch, because they can stay in the cabin if they don’t feel like joining you.
